Safeway Man

Safeway Man

The most significant moment

So far, for me

Is Safeway man

On a day when my religion reflects on the past year, and we try to fix ourselves up

Change, and make goals

The jewish new year

I pass him every time i leave

And you do too,

Safeway man

Homeless,

Stuck to these streets

Shopping cart and dog stand tall beside him

Because that dog remains his only companion

Broken

Down

I saw,

The dirt that hid in every wrinkle of him.

The dirt that covered him,

I wanted to scream, “you’re not an abstract painting!”

You’re a beautiful soul

So she gave him forty dollars

Maybe

He

Spent

It wisely

Maybe

I have my fragile hope
